Services

Three ways to work together.

Chaba works with software teams in three ways: ongoing advisory, scoped consulting, and hands-on engineering. Each can stand alone, or they can combine as a project moves from decision to delivery.

Technical Advisory

Advisory work is useful when a team needs a clear technical point of view without adding a full-time role. Engagements can be lightweight and ongoing, or focused around a specific decision. Advisory also covers how the engineering team itself grows: roles, hiring, onboarding, and the way work gets done.

Representative work:

  • Architecture and system design review.
  • Technical strategy and roadmap feedback.
  • Vendor, platform, and tooling evaluation.
  • Technical diligence and risk assessment.
  • Role design, hiring criteria, and interview process feedback.
  • Onboarding plans and development process guidance.
  • Technical leadership support for founders and engineering leads.

Consulting

Consulting work is scoped around a defined problem, decision, or outcome. The goal is to help a team understand the tradeoffs, decide what to do next, and move with less uncertainty.

Representative work:

  • Backend and platform architecture.
  • Reliability and operational readiness.
  • Observability strategy.
  • Migration planning.
  • Technical planning for product initiatives.

Engineering

Engineering work is hands-on: writing and shipping code alongside your team when a project needs senior capacity, not only advice. It often follows advisory or consulting work, once the path forward is clear and the team needs help getting there.

Representative work:

  • Building and reworking backend services and internal platforms.
  • Migrations between systems, data stores, or infrastructure.
  • Instrumentation: metrics, logs, traces, and alerting.
  • Performance and reliability fixes in production systems.
  • Prototypes that test a technical approach before a team commits to it.

Focus areas

Across all three services, the work tends to center on these areas.

Engineering leadership and technical direction

Guiding teams through technical decisions, system design tradeoffs, delivery planning, and execution risks. This includes helping teams clarify architecture, sequence work, review technical plans, and make decisions that hold up under real operating constraints.

Backend and platform systems

Reviewing, shaping, and building backend services, internal platforms, data flows, APIs, integrations, and production infrastructure. Work often spans architecture, debugging strategy, migration planning, and operational readiness.

Reliability, observability, and operations

Improving how teams understand, operate, and debug their systems. This includes service health, metrics, logs, traces, alerting, incident response practices, and practical reliability improvements.

Product-adjacent technical strategy

Helping translate product goals into technical paths that can actually be built and maintained. This can include evaluating technical scope, identifying risks, choosing pragmatic architecture, and aligning engineering work with business constraints.
